Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: A Teenage Prodigy Redefines IPL History
April 2025

In a season already full of remarkable moments, 14-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has written himself into cricket folklore with a record-breaking century that has stunned fans and pundits alike. Playing for the Rajasthan Royals, Sooryavanshi became the youngest player in the history of T20 cricket and the Indian Premier League to score a century, achieving the feat in only his third match.

A Star is Born in Jaipur

On 28 April 2025 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Sooryavanshi delivered a performance for the ages against the Gujarat Titans. Opening the batting in pursuit of a daunting 210-run target, the teenager made an immediate impact. He reached his half-century in just 17 balls, the fastest of IPL 2025, and went on to score a blistering 101 from 38 deliveries.

His century, completed in just 35 balls, is now the fastest by an Indian in IPL history and the second-fastest overall, just behind Chris Gayle’s 30-ball masterclass in 2013. With 11 sixes and seven fours, Sooryavanshi’s innings combined fearless stroke play with natural flair.

Making History and Breaking Records

At just 14 years and 32 days old, Sooryavanshi has redefined what is possible for a young cricketer on the world stage. His performance eclipsed long-standing records held by Manish Pandey, Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who were several years older when they reached similar milestones.

Thanks to a 166-run opening partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal, the Royals chased down the target with ease, securing a commanding eight-wicket win. The cricketing world responded in unison, with admiration pouring in from fans, players and legends of the game.

Just the Beginning

Originally from Bihar, Sooryavanshi was already turning heads before his IPL debut. He played in the Ranji Trophy at the age of 12 and struck a 58-ball century for India Under-19s against Australia. Signed by the Rajasthan Royals at 13 for ₹1.1 crore, he made his IPL debut on 19 April and has been rewriting records ever since.

As the youngest centurion in men's T20 history, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is more than just a prodigious talent. He is the face of cricket's next generation and has the world at his feet.
