Rajasthan Royals

CEO Jake Lush McCrum introduces you to Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals are one of the eight founding franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL), winners of the inaugural season in 2008, finalists of the 2013 Champions League T20 and finalists of the 2022 IPL.

The Royals are on a mission to ‘Transform Society through Cricket, Transform Cricket through Innovation’ with their pioneering approach and undying spirit of royalty. Born from the commitment to entertain cricket fans and unearth new talent in India and across the globe, they have been at the forefront of nurturing and promoting budding cricketers since its inception. With their roots in Rajasthan, they are impassioned by indomitable qualities of strength, courage and fighting prowess that personify the culture and people of their home state.

It is a team of many firsts, not just on the field but also in the digital realm. From being the first team to lift an IPL trophy to broadcasting a designated YouTube Channel in November 2008 and to launching an electronic tablet in 2013 – the franchise has led by example.

As a business, the Royals generate revenue from IPL’s television and online rights won by Star TV and Viacom18 (2023-27) as well as sponsorship, ticketing and merchandise – underpinned with a very strong and growing fan base on their social media platforms.

In the RR v RCB April 06 match at Jaipur, the Royals donned a special all-pink jersey dedicated to the women of the Royal Rajasthan Foundation. To support and amplify women-led transformation in Rajasthan, they made a #PinkPromise to solar power six homes in the Sambhar region for every six hit in that match. A total of 13 sixes were hit across both innings, with 78 homes being solar powered by women engineers trained by the Foundation. Luminous, the Royals’ Title Sponsor, joined the initiative, matching the franchise’s commitment that resulted in 158 homes being solar powered.

Cricket Ka Ticket | 2023

Rajasthan Royals launched ‘Cricket Ka Ticket’, India’s biggest cricket reality TV show to find India’s next male and female T20 superstars. The 8-episode series launched on Colors & JioCinema in March 2023 as India’s only sports reality TV show during the 2023 T20 cricket season. 11 men and 11 women cricketers, shortlisted from a total registration pool of nearly 1 lakh participants, competed for cash prizes, trial opportunities and mentorship programs.

Royals turn ‘Green Yodhas’ | 2022

Rajasthan Royals teamed up with their Sustainability Partner for the season, Schneider Electric, to play their first carbon-neutral IPL match on May 11 against Delhi Capitals at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. As part of the Green Yodha initiative, they pledged to help plant 17,000 trees across India with an aim to offset their carbon footprint. The tree plantation drive was inaugurated on the day of the match by the Royals’ Chairperson Mr. Ranjit Barthakur and Mr. Anil Chaudhry, MD & CEO of Schneider Electric India, in the stadium premises.

Every Run Counts | 2020

In a first-of-its-kind campaign, Rajasthan Royals joined hands with their principal sponsor Niine to help create awareness around menstruation in India. As part of the ‘Every Run Counts’ initiative, Niine pledged to provide menstrual hygiene to 9 girls for every run scored by the Rajasthan Royals players throughout the season. The Royals were once again leading the way, not only by becoming the first major men’s sports team in the world to be sponsored by a menstrual hygiene brand, but also by publicly initiating a conversation on a tabooed topic through their own platforms.

‘Cancer Out’ | 2018

In association with Tata Trusts and with support from the Rajasthan State Government, National Cancer Grid, Indian Cancer Society and Indian Dental Association, the Royals launched a statewide ‘Cancer Out’ campaign to shed light on the importance of early screening of cancer, thereby emphasising on the prevention of thousands of deaths every year. As part of the initiative and to help spread further awareness, then captain Ajinkya Rahane and fellow Royals players got themselves screened at the SMS hospital in Jaipur. The Royals also donned a special pink jersey in one of their matches against CSK during the season.

Bat For Girl Child | 2015

Rajasthan Royals worked towards the development and welfare of the Girl Child and pledged 2% of the annual profits of the company towards the cause for the year 2015. They tied-up with two NGOs – Educate Girls and Aangan – who were the beneficiaries of this funding. The British Asian Trust (BAT), part of HRH Prince of Wales’ Charities, worked as the Implementation Partner with the Royals.

Garnier - PowerLight A Village | 2013

The cities of Jaipur and Hyderabad became the epicentre of a social media activity as Garnier Men with Rajasthan Royals participated in a unique campaign called ‘PowerLight A Village.’ Rajasthan Royals cricketers Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane launched this initiative with an aim to light up hundreds of villages in India that do not have easy access to electricity.
